About The Position

The Principal Systems Development Engineer will design, define, and implement complex system requirements for customers and prepare studies and analyses of existing systems. This role leads end-to-end system solution design and delivery, working across functions to meet customer and business requirements. The engineer evaluates customer requests, identifies technical challenges, and develops cost-effective solutions for system performance and reliability.

The role also designs and implements testing, troubleshooting, validation, and diagnostic automation processes, including scripts, configurations, specifications, and procedures. It partners with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve issues, review designs, implement customizations, and support successful product delivery. Technical leadership includes documentation, reporting, mentoring systems engineers, and supporting sustaining and factory teams in delivering high-quality products.

The position is on Dell Technologies’ Engineering team in Round Rock, Texas, within the Infrastructure Solutions Group, which develops infrastructure, software, data management, and enterprise-scale platforms and diagnostics. The group describes AI as embedded throughout its development process, with engineers defining intent, authoring specifications, and orchestrating AI agents.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of relevant systems engineering or development experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 6 years with a master’s degree, or equivalent experience.
• Advanced knowledge of server system architectures and technologies, including PCIe, storage, CPU, memory, GPU, and networking protocols.
• Deep understanding of hardware, firmware, operating system, and software interactions, with demonstrated ability to analyze complex system behavior, perform root-cause analysis, and drive issues to resolution.
• Strong proficiency in Python and advanced experience with Linux operating systems, including system debugging, automation, configuration, and performance analysis.
• Proven technical leadership and communication skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional technical efforts, influence engineering decisions, and communicate complex concepts effectively to technical teams and senior management.

• Demonstrated leadership ability to guide, motivate, and influence cross-functional teams, driving collaboration and achieving business and technical objectives.
• Strong technical expertise in Python and/or C/C++ programming, with advanced experience in Linux operating systems, shell scripting, and system-level development.
