About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Architect Engineer for its Systems Engineering organization in Melbourne, Florida. The role supports model-based systems engineering (MBSE), requirements development, and architecture definition for a complex aerospace system. Using Cameo, the engineer will capture and manage system requirements, functional and physical architectures, and interfaces throughout the program lifecycle. Under general direction, the engineer develops and maintains system models in Cameo, applying systems engineering and MBSE principles. The role also supports project leadership in shaping system architecture and ensuring requirements and interfaces are clearly defined, traceable, and aligned with program objectives. The position requires an active U.S. Government Secret or higher clearance and includes travel estimated at 10% of the time. Relocation assistance may be available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military or professional experience; or a master's degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military or professional experience; or a Ph.D. and at least 1 year of relevant military, professional, or academic experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Systems engineering experience emphasizing requirements development, decomposition, and architecture definition for complex systems.
  • Direct experience using Cameo/MagicDraw or an equivalent MBSE tool for SysML-based modeling at the system or subsystem level.
  • Experience providing technical solutions to a wide range of complex, difficult problems consistent with organizational objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting mission planning or ground systems, including defining operational concepts, workflows, or interfaces between air vehicles and ground mission systems.
  • Experience with air vehicle or mission system requirements, including performance, avionics, mission, or integration requirements, and capturing them in an MBSE/Cameo model.
  • Exposure to mission systems and communications architectures, including data links, networks, and interfaces among onboard systems, ground segments, and external assets.
  • Experience applying MBSE/SysML to represent mission threads or operational scenarios spanning vehicle, mission systems, and ground systems.
  • Experience integrating Cameo models with requirements management tools such as DOORS/DOORS Next, or generating basic traceability and coverage reports.
  • Prior experience supporting design reviews with model-based artifacts on defense or aerospace programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability in Cameo, translating customer and stakeholder needs into system, segment, and subsystem requirements.
  • Develop and maintain operational, functional, and physical system architectures using SysML and MBSE methods, including use case, activity, sequence, block definition, and internal block diagrams.
  • Integrate requirements, behaviors, interfaces, and constraints into a coherent model supporting mission analysis, system design, and verification and validation planning.
  • Apply established modeling conventions and guidelines, and recommend improvements to the consistency and usability of the system model.
  • Coordinate requirements and architecture updates with multidisciplinary teams, including mission systems, avionics, ground systems, communications, and vehicle teams.
  • Generate model-based views and reports for technical reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR, communicating requirements coverage and architecture status.
  • Collaborate with requirements management and configuration management to help baseline the Cameo model and maintain alignment with DOORS or DOORS Next.
  • Provide MBSE and Cameo support and informal mentoring to engineers contributing to the model.
