Position Summary... The Principal, Systems and Infrastructure Engineer, Information Security, leads the design and implementation of secure, scalable architectures aligned with business and technology strategies. This role involves developing technical blueprints, optimizing system performance, and automating infrastructure processes to enhance operational efficiency. The position requires expertise in security frameworks, risk management, and continuous delivery practices to ensure robust protection and compliance. Collaborating across teams, the engineer drives innovation, capacity planning, and issue resolution while maintaining high standards of integrity and operational excellence within complex enterprise environments. About the team: The AI Security Team within Information Security integrates cybersecurity, generative AI, and governance to enhance organizational protection and secure AI systems. The team designs and implements advanced security architectures, ensuring robust infrastructure and application security aligned with industry standards. Collaborating across domains, they develop scalable, resilient solutions to address evolving security challenges. Combining expertise in systems engineering, security technology, and infrastructure management, the team drives innovation and maintains the integrity of critical systems that support Walmart’s business objectives.

Requirements

  • Extensive expertise in information systems security and risk management frameworks, including NIST CSF.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering, cryptography, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong experience with vulnerability assessments and application of OWASP standards.
  • Skilled in automation and scripting, particularly Python, to enhance continuous integration and delivery processes.
  • Ability to design scalable, secure infrastructure architectures aligned with technology strategies.
  • Proven capability in infrastructure maintenance, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and security compliance requirements within complex environments.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related area and 5years’ experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Security+, GISF, CISSP, CCSP, or GSEC
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity or related area and 3 years’ experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects

Responsibilities

  • Define and document architectural blueprints and technical priorities for systems and infrastructure aligned with business and technology strategies.
  • Design scalable, secure, and high-performance system components ensuring compliance with security frameworks and standards.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline deployment, configuration, and operational processes within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Analyze system requirements, assess risks, and prioritize enhancements to optimize infrastructure performance and security posture.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, audit firewall logs, and recommend improvements to strengthen system defenses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve escalated technical issues and support capacity planning initiatives.
