The Principal System Engineer will be responsible for architecting, designing, and analyzing large-scale distributed systems. This role involves defining end-to-end system architecture across software components, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards for performance, scalability, reliability, security, and usability. The engineer will determine and implement integrated architecture solutions by evaluating and selecting appropriate technologies such as cloud platforms, microservices, event-driven systems, APIs, and data platforms to meet evolving business and technical requirements. This position leads architectural design decisions and serves as the primary point of contact for complex technical solutions, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment across multiple engineering teams and systems. Responsibilities include coordinating system design and integration efforts across multiple applications (frontend, backend, APIs, data stores, infrastructure) to deliver cohesive and scalable enterprise solutions, and designing and developing multiple system versions and prototypes to evaluate and optimize performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. The role drives the development of new technologies and modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures, microservices, and API-driven platforms. Additionally, the Principal System Engineer researches, evaluates, and recommends emerging technologies and tools to improve system efficiency, developer productivity, and overall system quality. This role defines and enforces technical standards, design patterns, and best practices for application development, system integration, API design, caching, session management, and error handling. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and leadership, including architects, product managers, and engineering directors, is essential to align technical solutions with business objectives. The engineer will review and refine architectural solutions for large-scale epics and initiatives, ensuring technical feasibility and readiness prior to implementation. Developing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, mentoring engineers, and leading performance optimization efforts are also key aspects of this role. Participation in production support and incident management, including troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring system continuity, is required. The role involves building multiple system versions addressing performance and scale, and developing technical documentation on applications and systems.
