About The Position

The Principal Structural Design Engineer is a hands-on individual contributor role responsible for structural engineering ownership of CDU and switchgear systems. This role ensures that frames, enclosures, skids, and supporting structures meet all load, seismic, transport, installation, and operational requirements across global deployment environments. The position provides authoritative structural analysis, design validation, and code compliance, while ensuring structural intent is accurately captured in CAD models and released documentation. The role requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with deep experience in structural systems supporting heavy electrical equipment. Close collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, quality and PLM teams is essential to mitigate structural risk, support regulatory and customer approval processes, and prevent late-stage redesigns or field driven corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering for industrial or infrastructure class equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing and certifying structural analyses for heavy equipment assemblies.
  • Ability to independently own structural decisions and provide stamped deliverables if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Structural engineering experience supporting CDU, switchgear or mission critical power infrastructure.
  • Hands on experience with seismic qualification, anchorage design and elevated or constrained installations.
  • Experience designing structures supporting large bus bars, heavy transformers, or other high mass electrical components.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and installation interactions, including crane, forklift, and rigging requirements.
  • Experience supporting customer or regulatory structural acceptance and sign‑off processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own structural design and analysis for data center centric power and cooling systems, including frames, enclosures, skids and mounting structures.
  • Perform and review structural calculations for static, dynamic, seismic, transport and installation load cases.
  • Ensure structural designs meet applicable codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements for global deployment.
  • Exercise professional engineering judgment as the responsible structural authority.
  • Lead seismic qualification efforts, including floor response spectra evaluation and anchorage requirements.
  • Evaluate floor loading limits, elevated installations and site-specific structural constraints.
  • Ensure designs safely support heavy components such as large bus structures and transformers under all operating and fault conditions.
  • Assess interactions with forklifts, cranes, and rigging operations during manufacturing, transport and installation.
  • Ensure structural intent is accurately reflected in CAD models, drawings, and released documentation.
  • Review and guide structural CAD layouts, weldments, fastener strategies and anchoring details.
  • Partner with mechanical and CAD teams to maintain alignment between analytical assumptions and physical design implementation.
  • Verify manufacturing drawings clearly communicate load paths, interfaces and installation requirements.
  • Act as the technical authority for regulatory, AHJ and customer structural sign‑off requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and certify structural documentation required for compliance and customer acceptance.
  • Respond to structural inquiries, findings and deviations from customers, inspectors and third‑party reviewers.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to identify and mitigate structural risks early.
  • Support prototype builds, qualification testing, and production ramp up through structural guidance and issue resolution.
  • Proactively identify structural risks that could lead to late-stage redesigns, production delays or field retrofits.
