About The Position

The Indirect Supply Management (ISM) organization develops and executes sourcing strategies that maximize enterprise value across Medtronic’s indirect spend categories. This role is part of the Global Consulting and Marketing Services team and is responsible for strategic sourcing activities within the consulting services category, partnering with stakeholders across functions, regions, and businesses to optimize supplier performance, mitigate risk, and deliver measurable business value. This position is based in Fridley, Minnesota and follows an onsite work model, requiring a minimum of four days per week in the office to support collaboration with key business partners and stakeholders. As Principal Strategic Sourcing Specialist, Consulting, you will own sourcing strategy for a global consulting services portfolio with approximately $100M in annual spend, influencing decisions that support enterprise priorities across Medtronic. Partnering directly with senior leaders across functions, regions, and business units, you will shape sourcing strategies, lead complex negotiations with top consulting firms, and drive measurable value through supplier selection, commercial optimization, and risk management. This role offers significant visibility, broad organizational impact, and the opportunity to influence how external consulting services are leveraged across a global organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or related business experience; or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or related business experience.
  • Experience leading strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier negotiations, and contract discussions across indirect spend categories.
  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships and collaborating within a matrixed organization.
  • Experience analyzing data and market information to support sourcing strategies, business cases, and decision-making.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines concurrently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience sourcing consulting services or other professional services categories.
  • Experience developing category strategies and leading competitive sourcing events for complex spend portfolios.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint for data analysis, reporting, and executive presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global category strategies for consulting services, aligning sourcing activities with business objectives and enterprise priorities.
  • Lead competitive sourcing events, including Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other sourcing processes to maximize value and supplier performance.
  • Analyze spend data, market intelligence, supplier capabilities, and rate benchmarks to identify value creation opportunities and inform sourcing decisions.
  • Negotiate consulting agreements, scopes of work, commercial terms, pricing structures, and contract provisions to mitigate risk and optimize business outcomes.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across functions, regions, and business units to understand requirements, build alignment, and influence sourcing decisions.
  • Prepare and present category insights, sourcing recommendations, and business cases to senior leadership and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple sourcing initiatives simultaneously while balancing short-term business needs with longer-term category strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities within the consulting category through supplier optimization, demand management, and process enhancements.
