Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS), Huntsville, AL is currently seeking an Principal Engineer Software or Senior Principal Engineer Software. The successful candidates will demonstrate a broad skill set balanced between interpersonal and technical capabilities achieving sustainable quality products. They will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The selected candidates will participate in the entire software development lifecycle. The candidate will work closely with other software developers accomplishing the following:

Requirements

  • BS or higher degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) or related field with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of experience (for Principal Software Engineer)
  • BS or higher degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) or related field with 8+ years of experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of experience (for Senior Principal Software Engineer)
  • Understanding of software design principles and proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (any combination of Java, C, C++)
  • Demonstrated experience with version control systems (Github, Bitbucket, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience with Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Gitlab etc)
  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud Services Development
  • Proven experience with Linux OS.
  • Working knowledge of the Agile development processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with small technical teams
  • Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results
  • Ability to work full time on-site in Huntsville, AL
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sense and Warn & Intercept (SnW&I) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) architectures and Northrop Grumman products
  • Experience spearheading end‑to‑end software‑development initiatives with minimal supervisory guidance
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and proven track record delivering innovative and high‑quality solutions
  • Ability to work with diverse technical, programmatic and user communities, supporting the modernization, capability development, integration and test
  • Experience performing Verification Tests to verify software requirements, including developing, implementing, and maintaining Software Test Plans, and preparing Test/Inspection Reports
  • Experience with the following software tools/programs: SD WAN, Ansible, Python, ArgoCD

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with software designers and/or software engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of CI/CD Pipelines and software systems
  • Complete work independently and as a part of an Agile team
  • Support team in completing necessary software on schedule
  • Solve complex problems through innovative and creative solutions
  • Regularly demonstrate progress to customers
  • Work with other support teams to solve issues, set standards, and boost efficiency
