About The Position

The Principal Solutions Architect is a highly experienced technical leader and recognized authority responsible for defining and driving enterprise-wide architecture strategies across cloud, application modernization, and secure distributed systems. This role operates at a senior leadership level, influencing technology direction, advising executive stakeholders, and ensuring alignment between enterprise architecture, business objectives, and federal or regulated requirements. The Principal Solutions Architect leads highly complex initiatives involving cloud transformation, Azure-based solutions, systems integration, and secure application development, while mentoring technical teams and establishing architectural standards across the organization.

Requirements

Advanced expertise in enterprise architecture and distributed system design
Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure architecture and cloud-native technologies
Strong experience with application modernization, cloud migration, and hybrid environments
Expertise in security architecture and compliance frameworks
Exceptional leadership and ability to influence across technical and business domains
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in complex environments
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage executive audiences
Proven ability to lead large-scale initiatives and mentor senior technical staff
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
12–15 years of progressive experience in solutions architecture, cloud engineering and platform design and enterprise application development and modernization
5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, application modernization, and cloud development
3+ years designing and implementing solutions in Microsoft Azure environments
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale transformation initiatives
Experience in federal, regulated, or large-scale enterprise environments strongly preferred

Nice To Haves

Preferred certifications in Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert and Microsoft Azure Developer Associate
One or more of the following: CISSP, CCSP, CISM, TOGAF

Responsibilities

Define and lead enterprise architecture strategy across cloud, applications, and infrastructure
Develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with organizational and client objectives
Establish architecture standards, reference models, and governance frameworks
Advise executive leadership on emerging technologies, risks, and investment priorities
Architect and oversee complex Microsoft Azure solutions, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments
Lead enterprise cloud adoption, migration, and modernization strategies
Design solutions leveraging Azure services such as, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Services and Functions, Azure Virtual Networks and security controls, Azure Data and AI services
Ensure optimization for performance, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency
Lead large-scale application modernization initiatives, including refactoring legacy systems into cloud-native architectures
Establish best practices for Microservices and distributed systems, API-first design, and event-driven architectures
Guide development teams in full-stack and cloud-native application development
Ensure integration of security-by-design principles across all solutions
Oversee architecture alignment with federal and enterprise frameworks (e.g., NIST, Zero Trust)
Partner with cybersecurity teams to address identity and access management, cloud security posture management, risk mitigation and compliance
Support and guide penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and secure system design
Lead cross-functional teams of architects, engineers, and developers
Provide technical direction across multiple programs simultaneously
Conduct architecture reviews, design approvals, and technical assessments
Drive adoption of DevSecOps, automation, and continuous delivery practices
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, clients, and stakeholders
Translate complex technical concepts into business value and strategic recommendations
Support business development and pre-sales efforts through solution design and technical leadership
Present architecture strategies, risks, and trade-offs at executive and client levels
