Principal Software Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. This role involves defining architectural guidelines, leading software development initiatives, and collaborating with stakeholders to align software solutions with business objectives. You will also be responsible for introducing and training teams in advanced programming languages and tools, ensuring cloud readiness and optimal performance of applications, and providing technical leadership and mentoring to various teams. The position may be eligible for hybrid/remote work but is based out of and reports to Aflac offices in Columbus, GA. Regular travel to Columbus, GA for meetings and reviews with management and project teams may be required with 24-hours' notice.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical field
- At least 6 years of progressive experience in IT positions
- Applying experience with the Wynsure/eWAM full development cycle, Wynsure production support, and specific expertise in Wynsure Enrollment domain including Wynsure Service Layer Integration (SLI) APIs, Wynsure Event-Driven-Architecture (EDA), Wynsure Data Migration, and Wynsure Optimizations
- Experience in supporting an Enterprise scaled Production environment for Wynsure, including troubleshooting thru logs and crash dumps
- Utilizing experience with Wynsure technology: GOLD (enhanced variant of C++), eWAM, wMigrate, Wyseman, OQL
- Utilizing experience with Web Services, SQL Server, ETL, Transact SQL (writing complex stored procedures, triggers), Powershell, IIS
- Utilizing experience with API and Integration including WebServices, REST, SOAP, XML, JSON
Responsibilities
- Define architectural guidelines and best practices
- Lead software development initiatives from conception to deployment
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align software solutions with business objectives
- Introduce and train teams in advanced programming languages and tools
- Ensure cloud readiness and optimal performance of all applications
- Lead and mentor technical and project team members at the business function level
- Lead the project team in analyzing the requirements and providing accurate and detailed estimates for the designing, building, testing and deployment phases of the project
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to various technical teams
- Collaborate with Architects, Developers, Senior Infrastructure Technical staff to evaluate and recommend technology advancements and business solutions for assigned projects and/or applications
- Support the implementation and testing of cross-functional systems, ensuring system meets the needs of client and business
- Proactively monitor projects and/or existing production applications and core infrastructure by looking for ways to improve the applications and its availability
- Handle unresolved production support issues across multiple areas of expertise; analyzes the current architecture
- Provide design recommendations, develop application and custom integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces; write complex design specifications
- Provide leadership to support ongoing maintenance of client server applications or tools, depending upon previous involvement with projects
- Facilitate and ensure on-time completion of performance, load, functional and other categories of testing and application vulnerability testing efforts and resolution of issues including developing new cross-functional software systems using disciplined software development processes
