About The Position

This role involves devising or modifying procedures to solve technical problems, system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. The Principal Software Engineer will lead and direct the work of team members, develop component designs, and create system or application architecture. They will be responsible for developing maintainable, scalable, effective, and defect-free source code that meets business requirements and team standards, while also identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities. The role includes conducting unit test case development and potentially mentoring junior team members. Telecommuting is permitted up to 40%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any) or related field and seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Software Engineer-related occupation.
  • Develop and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL.
  • Troubleshoot complex IT issues for new products including modeling refresh launched to handle online and batch specific transactions.
  • Lead design reviews, produce clear architectural artifacts, and articulate technical trade offs to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and guidance to junior engineers through 1-1s and pair programming.
  • Build and iterate software prototypes under tight deadlines.
  • Both heads down coding time as well as active participation in product design, demonstration, testing and support.
  • Experience may be gained during graduate program.
  • Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
