The Principal Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical execution across multiple teams. This role applies cloud-native architecture principles to develop resilient distributed systems and integrates AI/ML solutions to enhance customer experiences. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to align engineering efforts with business objectives. The engineer ensures high-quality software development lifecycle management, fosters innovation, and promotes continuous improvement while maintaining architectural standards and operational excellence in a dynamic environment. The Marketplace Engineering team at Walmart Global Tech drives innovation in global commerce by powering a rapidly expanding eCommerce platform. This team develops advanced tools for storefront management, pricing, and inventory control, supporting thousands of sellers worldwide. They build reliable, intelligent systems integrating real-time data and partner platforms to ensure seamless order experiences. Focused on scalable, cloud-native architectures, the team collaborates across functions to align technology with business goals, fostering continuous improvement and delivering exceptional customer experiences on a global scale.

Requirements

Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
Strong technical judgment with a focus on architectural decision-making and long-term system evolution.
Demonstrated skills in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team architectural standards.
Proficiency in applying model-driven design and leveraging AI agents to enhance development velocity.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

Lead platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
Architect and implement cloud-native, distributed systems ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
Oversee full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response across multiple teams.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and innovation.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
Drive continuous improvement through experimentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of advanced development tools.
