This role involves writing production code, designing systems, and owning their behavior post-release. The engineer will define services, build them, ensure they work through automated testing, deploy them via a delivery pipeline, and manage their production performance. This is an AI-augmented role, expecting daily use of coding agents, with the engineer defining responsible and verifiable usage standards. The role also involves setting technical standards for application engineering, including architecture, code quality, and testing discipline, through hands-on building. The engineer will be responsible for turning ambiguous business problems into technical direction, producing architecture and interface designs, making technology selection and build-vs-buy decisions, and implementing full-stack solutions. They will own the automated testing strategy, enforce unit test coverage, build integration test suites, and author/maintain functional and end-to-end browser tests. Delivery to production includes packaging services as containers, authoring deployment configurations, and promoting changes through a GitOps pipeline, requiring fluency with Terraform and Kubernetes manifests. AI-augmented delivery involves using coding agents for problem decomposition, multi-step implementation, and rigorous review of generated output. The engineer will be expected to deliver scope typically requiring a larger team and establish guardrails for safe AI-assisted development. Security and compliance are integrated into the development process, requiring code that passes automated scans and remediation of findings at the source. Services must be designed to meet authentication, authorization, encryption, and data handling requirements by construction. Auditability and evidence generation involve instrumenting services for structured, tamper-evident audit logs and ensuring compliance evidence is produced automatically as pipeline artifacts. The role operates within a CMMC Level 2 environment, and familiarity with its implications for code provenance, change control, and access logging is advantageous. Production accountability includes instrumenting systems, defining health signals, participating in incident response, and driving permanent remediation. Technical leadership involves mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, and influencing engineering direction without formal authority.
