Principal Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure

Oracle•Santa Clara, CA
•$114,600 - $234,600

About The Position

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) delivers mission-critical cloud applications and services across more than 50 regions. Core Infrastructure Engineering focuses on customer choice, transparency, and value, including building canonical implementations of core data-plane components and low-level, high-performance systems for use by OCI cloud services. The Principal Software Engineer will help build and deliver database and storage services at cloud scale. This role contributes to a nascent OCI service and works with senior architects and leaders to solve challenging systems, data-plane, and performance problems. The engineer will design low-level systems and distributed interactions for high-performance, high-scale data planes, while balancing simplicity, speed, quality, and incremental improvement. The role includes envisioning and collaborating with executives on investment, driving software design and development for major OCI data-plane components, and defining foundations for next-generation data planes. It combines architectural leadership with hands-on engineering, including documentation, peer reviews, prototyping, code reviews, and project bootstrapping. The engineer will help define and evolve standard practices, guide junior team members, work with Engineering Managers and TPMs, and promote automation, instrumentation, operational excellence, and customer focus. The team is described as early-stage, growing, collaborative, dynamic, and flexible.
