Within this organization, the Managed Apps team is building the next generation of AI-powered application development experiences that enable customers, makers, and professional developers to build, deploy, govern, and operate applications at enterprise scale. Microsoft is considered one of the leaders in Software as a Service in the world of business applications and this organization is at the heart of how business applications are designed and delivered. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Managed Apps team, responsible for the core platform, runtime, SDK, CLI, governance, security, and lifecycle management capabilities that power Power Apps Code Apps and future AI-driven application experiences. The team is building the foundational infrastructure that enables apps to be created, customized, deployed, managed, and operated consistently across the Power Platform ecosystem while meeting enterprise requirements for reliability, security, compliance, and governance. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across multiple strategic investments including runtime architecture, developer tooling, SDK and CLI experiences, AI-enabled development workflows, governance systems, and platform services. You will partner across Power Apps, Copilot Studio, Dataverse, and ecosystem teams to define platform direction, drive execution, improve developer productivity, and deliver highly reliable services used by customers worldwide. You will also mentor engineers, help establish engineering standards, and drive operational excellence across the organization. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
• These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 10+ years software engineering experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, React, or Python.
• OR equivalent experience.
• 8+ years industry experience in fullstack or backend development shipping services through multiple releases.
• Experience building generative AI applications or services.
• Experience with the Power Platform or M365 Enterprise development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
• Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
• Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
• Drives creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, and interprets results from experimentation.
• Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
• Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
• Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
