About The Position

Lorikeet is redefining customer support with advanced AI solutions for various industries. We are seeking a Principal Engineer for our New York office to set technical direction and shape the company's platform. This is a hands-on role where you will be instrumental in defining AI-first product development, owning architecture, tackling complex problems like reliability at scale and AI evaluation systems, and defining how the team builds with AI. You will lead through the quality of your work and thinking, not through a reporting line. Our stack includes TypeScript, React/Remix, PrismaORM, NestJS, and Python.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience shipping software.
  • Experience as a staff- or principal-level engineer at a company with high engineering standards.
  • Experience setting the technical direction for a product or platform and understanding the consequences.
  • Experience leading ambiguous, high-stakes projects from inception to production, across the stack.
  • Ability to make other engineers better through design reviews, mentorship, and setting an example in code.
  • Experience using coding agents as a core part of the development workflow, not just as autocomplete.
  • Opinions on how teams should use coding agents.
  • Desire to be an early employee with real scope, ownership, and upside at a fast-moving company.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of TypeScript, React/Remix, PrismaORM, NestJS, and Python.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction for the company.
  • Own the architecture for major parts of our product and make decisions that shape the platform for years to come.
  • Write code to implement architectural decisions.
  • Take on ambiguous, high-stakes, cross-cutting work such as reliability at millions-of-tickets scale, evaluation and quality systems for AI agents, and foundational systems for other engineers.
  • Design tooling, guardrails, and feedback loops for coding agents to make them effective across the team.
  • Apply judgment to determine when AI output is ready to ship.
  • Build and contribute code as a primary activity.
  • Lead through the quality of thinking and work.

Benefits

  • Flexible hours.
  • Company-wide trips to Hawaii twice a year.
  • Unrestricted access to AI tools with no usage limits.
  • Opportunities for rapid promotion based on performance.
  • Commitment to building a diverse team.
  • Focus on user obsession and eagerness to learn over traditional credentials.
