About The Position

The Builders Hub Team, part of the Mastercard Software Builders Experience program, owns and drives developer experience for the company. The team has a unique opportunity to create a unified internal developer portal supporting and helping to drive a new internal developer platform (IDP). This portal and platform will assist all development teams across Mastercard and its M&A’s, with golden paths and automation that reduces toil and cognitive load for developers. The Builders Hub team has a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of an evolving landscape of technology at Mastercard and help shape the future of development, deployment and more! The Principal Software Engineer will lead the design and implementation of the Internal Developer Portal and Platform, drive patterns and standards for IDP integration and automation, and create mechanisms to ensure alignment to those standards and best practices in an automated fashion. This role involves leading by example with hands-on approaches to demonstrate engineering excellence, mentoring and guiding software engineers, and improving engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance. The engineer will also identify opportunities for reuse and improved efficiency, engage with IT and Business partners, product owners and stakeholders to create meaningful roadmaps, and champion Mastercard engineering principles. Active participation in the Software Engineering Guild and helping to identify and drive meaningful behavior changing metrics are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • 12+ Years of lead software engineering experience
  • Deep, applied knowledge of designing, Implementing and supporting internal development platforms in a multi cloud environment
  • Deep understanding of cloud providers including AWS and Azure (Services, Access controls, Integration and Automation….etc)
  • Solid understanding of cloud security In highly regulated market segments and countries.
  • Solid experience with site reliability engineering mindset and creating solutions that are resilient, supportable and observable at all layers of the stack
  • Deep understanding of automation using various tools
  • Deep understanding of observability In a cloud environment
  • Solid understanding of pure Kubernetes and cloud provider based managed services Kubernetes
  • Proficient in web service design, standards, best practices and Implementation
  • Deep understanding of containerization and designing ephemeral solutions
  • Proven track record of delivering solutions to complex, multi-domain environments
  • Ability to articulate complex designs and solutions to people with varying levels of technical aptitude
  • Experienced in guiding less experienced engineers with the use of pair programming, code reviews, design reviews, etc.
  • Deep knowledge in migration from legacy technologies and mindset to the best In class solutions for the cloud
  • Self-Driven and able to navigate complex organizational environments
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to gain alignment / buy-in on any solutions that will require cross functional support
  • Strong understanding of different project management methodologies Including waterfall and Agile/Scrum
  • Strong understanding of all phases of the SDLC process from design to deployment.
  • Enthusiastically engages engineers across technology organizations to promote standard software patterns and reuse of common libraries and services with experience leading open-source development efforts
  • Leads by example in establishing enterprise-wide standards for application integration and identifies/ anticipates future requirements to support business needs
  • Champions performance engineering practices to ensure that performance meets (or exceeds) expectations; educates stakeholders on performance testing processes, methodology, performance and scalability metrics, capacity modeling techniques, and testing approaches
  • Understand software development productivity metrics (e.g., code churn, commit size, commits/story) and help teams to remove blockers and continuously improve code velocity, quality, and release frequency
  • Experienced with NodeJS, Java, C# and other programming languages
