Principal Software Engineer
About The Position
The AKC IT Dev Ops team oversees the creation and upkeep of tailored applications that are predominantly hosted on-site. As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll manage staff and lead a team of developers, spearheading the software development lifecycle for a key business segment. Your role involves collaborating with business executives, product owners, and stakeholders to outline software requirements and priorities. Budgeting and resource allocation for projects fall within your purview, alongside managing software from inception to ongoing support. Setting technical benchmarks, devising strategies, and aiding in problem-solving and enhancement of existing software also forms part of your responsibilities.
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least FIVE of the standard AKC languages include: Angular, Node, Vue, React, Java, Java Swing, Java Server Pages, Java Script, Java Servlets, Enterprise Java Beans, jQuery, PL/SQL, SQL, HTML, XML, DHTML, Cold Fusion, Perl, PHP, Power Builder, C++, and Visual Basic.
- Deep understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices for building scalable and maintainable systems.
- Experience managing a staff’s employment life cycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, training etc.
- Ability to design and implement complex software systems, considering factors like scalability, performance, and security.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and inspire collaboration.
- Ability to lead, mentor and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, foster growth and inspire collaboration.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and design effectively.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on working Manager who oversees staff responsibilities and teams, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical excellence, mentoring junior team members, and creating a positive work environment.
- Leading in project planning, estimation, and resource allocation, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Design and implement complex, scalable, and secure software architectures that meet the needs of the project and the organization.
- Principal Software Engineers still actively contribute by writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code for critical parts of the system.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, clearly articulating technical concepts and project progress.
- Champion best practices in software development, including code quality, testing methodologies, and documentation standards.
- Identify areas for improvement in the software development process and participate in implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Analyze complex technical challenges, identify root causes, and design and implement effective solutions.
- Research and evaluate new technologies to identify the best solutions for upcoming projects.
