About The Position

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of scalable, secure software solutions aligned with business objectives. This role involves analyzing requirements, creating detailed designs, and guiding implementation across distributed systems and cloud-native architectures. You will drive quality through code reviews, testing strategies, and continuous integration practices while anticipating risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will influence technical direction and mentor others to deliver innovative, high-performing products that meet evolving customer and organizational needs. The Advertising Business Systems (ABS) team, part of the Advertising Technology group, supports Advertisers, Agencies, Partners, and Internal stakeholders across Lead Generation, CRM, Onboarding, Business Management, Media Planning, Order Management, Billing, Insights, Gen AI capabilities, and Third Party Tools. ABS aims to be a trusted, scalable platform partner for Walmart Connect business teams, simplifying advertiser interactions. The team focuses on building intelligent platforms that enhance operational efficiency, enable ad revenue growth, and extend platform capabilities beyond Walmart Connect, delivering seamless and scalable solutions aligned with business objectives.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable design patterns.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as JavaScript, Python, and C, with knowledge of relevant frameworks and platforms.
  • Strong expertise in cloud computing architecture, cloud-native design, and cloud engineering principles.
  • Ability to conduct thorough requirement analysis, including functional and non-functional specifications.
  • Skilled in designing modular, extensible solutions aligned with business objectives and risk mitigation.
  • Experience leading code reviews, ensuring security compliance, and driving CI/CD automation.
  • Knowledge of test strategies, defect management, and telemetry for performance monitoring.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and scope requirements, including risk and cost assessments, to align solutions with business objectives.
  • Design scalable, modular software architectures incorporating disaster recovery and cloud-native principles.
  • Develop detailed designs and minimum viable products to clarify requirements and identify risks.
  • Guide coding standards, frameworks, and security practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable software.
  • Lead test strategy development, tool selection, and execution to validate functionality, performance, and security.
  • Monitor program metrics and manage continuous integration and deployment processes for optimal delivery.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and drive defect resolution to enhance product reliability and usability.
