About The Position

Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking an exceptional Principal Software Engineer to own and architect our entire simulation and automation capability for next-generation advanced robotics systems. You will establish Amazon's simulation and automation competency from the ground up at unprecedented scale, serving as the technical authority and strategic owner for simulation frameworks, automation pipelines, and related software systems across our product line. You will build deep partnerships with internal robotics teams, architect our simulation infrastructure, and influence product design from concept through production deployment. This role requires mastery of simulation engineering—from building high-fidelity physics-based models to scaling automated testing and validation at volume—combined with a career establishing software platforms, managing complex technical programs, and leading cross-functional initiatives. You will partner with engineering leaders across the robotics organization, shape our product architecture for testability and automation, and define our simulation roadmap.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in software engineering or related technical disciplines
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience leading complex, multi-system projects from conception to delivery
  • Proven track record of influencing senior leadership and driving technical decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement large-scale distributed systems

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience in functional decomposition with ability to lead teams to perform model-based simulation engineering, systems engineering, system architecture requirements, technical analysis, and technology research
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and agile testing methodologies applied to systems and automation
  • Technical Publications and Patents

Responsibilities

  • Provide the architectural vision for a digital twin-based, AI-driven autonomous validation framework using simulation as the baseline.
  • Influence cross-org deliverables to meet the architectural vision and disambiguate technical needs from a validation perspective.
  • Enable software hooks to realize digital twin capabilities and enable launchable instances of these digital twins with comprehensive metrics and observability.
  • Interface with the platform team to enable adversary testing of the simulation platform, ensuring robustness and resilience under edge-case and failure-mode scenarios.
  • Provide virtualized dynamic environments that allow for realizing the testability of software in field environments, enabling rapid iteration and validation without physical deployment.
  • Provide virtualized dynamic environments to qualify software for safety, ensuring compliance with safety standards and enabling rigorous validation of autonomous behaviors prior to real-world deployment.
