Principal Software Engineer, AI Agent (Member)
About The Position
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with a proven track record of building customer-facing AI agents to help us create the next-generation financial guidance experience for 10M+ SoFi members. This role is central to SoFi’s mission of becoming the most trusted guide in helping members Get Their Money Right. As a Principal Engineer, you will define the architecture and technical strategy for our financial guidance agent and lead its implementation across multiple workstreams. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, product, data science, design, and business teams to build a scalable AI Agent that delivers personalized, trustworthy, and actionable financial guidance at scale.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years experience building AI Agents or platforms for millions of users.
- Strong experience in building production AI Agents, including orchestration, evals, retrieval/grounding, and guardrails.
- Strong expertise in system architecture, platform design, and cross-org technical strategy
- Proven ability to lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives across multiple teams
- A highly hands-on technical leader who leads by example and is willing to roll up your sleeves to design, prototype, and ship critical features in production.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Responsibilities
- Define the technical strategy and architecture for AI Agent for Member, and lead cross-team system design and execution.
- Define the evaluation strategy and lead the implementation of systems and processes to measure, monitor, and improve AI agent quality and reliability.
- Drive quality, reliability, observability, safety and compliance of the AI Agent in a regulated environment.
- Partner closely with product, data science, design, and business leaders to translate product vision into scalable systems
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, and elevate engineering excellence across the org
