About The Position

The Identity Security (IDSEC) team is seeking a Security Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of Security Engineers and Software Engineers focused on protecting the largest and most critical identity platform in the world. This leader will drive the engineering strategy, operational execution, and technical direction behind vulnerability reduction and defensive engineering initiatives across Microsoft Identity. The role combines deep security expertise with strong engineering leadership and requires the ability to operate effectively during both strategic planning and high-priority security events. This role requires a leader who can translate security risk into engineering action, influence across organizational boundaries, and help shape the future of AI-powered security operations. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Risk Management, Cyber Security, or related field AND 6+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large scale computing, threat modeling, cyber security, or anomaly detection OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Risk Management, Cyber Security, or related field AND 8+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large scale computing, threat modeling, cyber security, or anomaly detection OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Track record of building high-performing, diverse engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Security and Software Engineering Teams: Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Security Engineers and Software Engineers.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, technical excellence, urgency, and continuous learning.
  • Drive hiring, career development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Foster strong partnerships across engineering, architecture, data science, operations, and security teams.
  • Build Security Capabilities at Scale: Develop scalable solutions that reduce risk across the identity ecosystem.
  • Improve speed and effectiveness of finding, triaging, investigating, and remediating security issues.
  • Partner with platform teams to embed security controls directly into engineering workflows.
  • Advance AI-Powered Security Engineering: Leverage AI and automation to accelerate security analysis, investigations, vulnerability management, and response activities.
  • Drive engineering investments that improve analyst efficiency and reduce mean time to investigate and remediate.
  • Partner with research and engineering teams to operationalize new security capabilities.
  • Influence Security Strategy: Partner with senior engineering and security leaders to identify emerging risks and prioritize investments.
  • Translate complex technical findings into actionable recommendations for executives and stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in executive reviews, incident leadership forums, and strategic security initiatives.
  • Drive alignment across teams to ensure rapid execution against critical security priorities.
