About The Position

Parsons is looking to hire a Principal Scientist for our rapidly expanding portfolio of environmental projects, specifically supporting environmental remediation and restoration projects. You will determine methods and solutions for complex environmental problems, selecting the most efficient and economical means to meet established objectives and criteria. Our scientists at this level are qualified professionals, proficient in utilizing the relevant theories and practices of their discipline. Assignments may involve the application of computer models, and require an in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and control strategies relevant to their technical areas. Travel to field sites is expected, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science curriculum related to the assigned discipline.
  • 10+ years of related work experience on environmental remediation science and river restoration including experience as a task leader.
  • Proficiency in physical and biological aspects of river restoration design including design of physical habitat structures, evaluation of aquatic species benefits, and preparation of habitat function models.
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used within the assigned discipline is required.
  • Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations pertinent to the assigned discipline.
  • Ability to perform in a lead capacity on a project.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs interdisciplinary environmental projects of large scope and complexity.
  • Serves as a technical leader and as a recognized expert in field of practice.
  • Prepares habitat function models such as habitat equivalency analysis, resource equivalency analysis, etc. to support compensatory mitigation evaluations.
  • Supports restoration design projects on interdisciplinary teams involving biologists/ecologists, engineers, designers, planners, and other support staff.
  • Acts as an authority in field of specialty while providing regulatory compliance consulting services.
  • Prepares proposals and cost estimates.
  • Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
  • Prepares and presents technical papers and reports.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations at webinars and conferences.
  • May review and assist in completing technical reports and documents prepared by others.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
