•$108,500 - $222,300•Onsite

About The Position

Novartis is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist I with extensive AAV gene therapy manufacturing experience to develop state-of-the-art downstream purification processes for next-generation AAV gene therapy. The role also executes early-stage process development focused on assessing the developability of AAV gene therapy lead candidates and developing new platform processes for existing and novel AAV capsids and cargo vectors. The internal job title is Principal Scientist I/II, and the position is onsite in San Diego, California. The Principal Scientist will lead and manage a downstream process team of 3–5 people, coordinate work across upstream process and analytical teams, and collaborate with Disease Areas and other functions to support early drug discovery from target selection and validation through lead compound selection and developability assessment. The role serves as a subject matter expert, transfers manufacturing process knowledge to Technical Research & Development, and works with that team to advance pipeline programs into clinical phases and develop innovative, cost-effective downstream processes for next-generation AAV. The position also involves managing multiple project workflows and preparing written reports according to documentation practices, including use of an electronic lab notebook.
