About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb’s Computational Sciences group is seeking a Principal Scientist for its Small Molecule Computational Design team. The scientist will serve on multidisciplinary Protein Homeostasis project teams, using computational chemistry, cheminformatics, and machine learning to generate and test scientific hypotheses and translate them into actionable molecular designs that advance discovery programs. The role combines structure-based drug design with data-driven modeling and analysis, with accountability for delivering computational objectives for assigned programs. The position involves designing and prioritizing degrader and molecular glue chemical matter; applying multi-parameter optimization to improve potency, selectivity, ternary complex formation and cooperativity, degradation efficiency, and ADME properties; and identifying potential toxicological risks. The scientist will develop and deploy predictive models and cheminformatics workflows, integrate structural information with large-scale data analysis, and steward chemical and biological data resources and reusable analysis infrastructure. The role also provides scientific leadership, mentorship, and internal and external scientific visibility through publications, presentations, and patent applications.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with 4 or more years of academic or industry experience; Master's degree with 6 or more years; or Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, computational biophysics, chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Strong history of directly impacting small-molecule discovery programs in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Solid working knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles.
  • Demonstrated hands-on depth in both computer-aided drug design and cheminformatics or machine learning.
  • Superior communication skills and a collaborative mindset suited to multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed project teams.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with targeted protein degradation, molecular glues, or other induced-proximity modalities, including ternary complex modeling, cooperativity assessment, or E3 ligase chemical space.
  • Experience applying computational methods to a variety of biological targets, such as proteins, DNA, and RNA.
  • Familiarity with diverse therapeutic modalities, including covalent and non-covalent inhibitors, allosteric modulators, targeted protein degraders, antibodies, and antibody-drug conjugates.

Responsibilities

  • Serve independently as the computational scientist on Protein Homeostasis project teams and deliver the computational objectives of those programs.
  • Apply structure-based and data-driven computational approaches to project problems.
  • Design, prioritize, and triage degrader and molecular glue chemical matter.
  • Apply multi-parameter optimization to advance potency, selectivity, ternary complex formation and cooperativity, degradation efficiency, and ADME properties, while identifying and mitigating potential toxicological risks.
  • Develop, validate, and deploy predictive models and cheminformatics workflows, and promote their routine use in project decision-making.
  • Integrate co-crystal, cryo-EM, predicted, and modeled structural information with large-scale data analysis and visualization to deepen structure-activity relationship insights and shape project strategy.
  • Curate and steward chemical and biological data resources, reusable tooling, and analysis infrastructure to ensure analyses are reproducible, discoverable, and useful to other scientists.
  • Provide scientific leadership on emerging technologies, platforms, and targets, and test and advance innovative approaches with stakeholders.
  • Mentor colleagues and serve as an internal subject-area resource.
  • Build internal and external scientific visibility through publications, presentations, and patent applications.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits, including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings, subject to plan terms and eligibility.
  • Eligible U.S.-based exempt employees receive Flexible Time Off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, and 11 paid company holidays annually.
  • Depending on eligibility, additional time-off benefits may include paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
  • Eligible employees may receive an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • Additional benefits for certain non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico include 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires, 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.
