Principal Scientist, Systems and Disease Biology

SanofiCambridge, MA
$122,250 - $176,583Onsite

About The Position

As a Principal Scientist within our Systems and Disease Biology Cluster, you will decode disease mechanisms at cellular resolution and pioneer AI-powered workflows that accelerate the path from discovery to patient impact. The Systems and Disease Biology Cluster, part of the Target, Disease, and Systems Biology function at Sanofi Research, is dedicated to delivering first-in-class medicines to patients. Our approach involves deconstructing disease mechanisms into pathways & cellular building blocks and advancing innovative therapeutics. We are in search of a highly skilled, independent, proactive, and well-organized Principal Scientist. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in complex cellular analytics, as well as strong data science skills to help build upon our current achievements and secure our future success. Experience in developing and deploying modern agentic analysis workflows to accelerate discovery timelines and create robust and reusable analytical templates is highly valued. Importantly, they should have the ability to creatively lead projects and coordinate scientific activities, summarize and present results, and establish their relevance to key decision points in the drug discovery process. Opportunities to mentor interns, and junior scientists may be available. Join the engine of Sanofi’s mission — where deep immuno-science meets bold, AI-powered research. In R&D, you’ll drive breakthroughs that could turn the impossible into possible for millions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in systems biology, computational biology, biostatistics, or related quantitative field with proven experience in a relevant disease area (Immunology, Neurology or Oncology) OR PhD in biological sciences, biomedical sciences, immunology, neuroscience, oncology or in a related disease area and proven advanced track record of data analytics, ML/AI, or computational biology.
  • At least 2 years of post-doctoral experience in relevant academic or industry roles.
  • Hands-on experience in ML/AI and building or deploying agentic analysis workflows.
  • Extensive hands-on experience and deep knowledge of multi-omics and/or multimodal data analysis, with ability to extract actionable interpretation and conclusions from the analysis.
  • A track record of productivity, innovation and impact (publications or patents)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and team skills; track record of success working collaboratively across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Generating hypotheses on how targets, pathways cell type/state drive diseases (immunology, neurology and oncology disease areas) by integrating multi-omics and multi-modal data, including real-world data and clinical metadata.
  • Applying established analytical methods to understand disease and drug mechanisms.
  • Design intelligent agentic workflows that streamline the deployment of innovative algorithms and computational models.
  • Leading projects involving internal experiment design and data analytics as well as outsourcing of established workflows and/or complex follow-up mechanistic assays (organoid, CRISPR, proteomics)
  • Collaborating with academic, industry, and internal partners on method development and disease-focused scientific studies.
  • Leading and contributing to high-profile presentations and publications.
  • Support the growth of the team by mentoring interns and junior scientists, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative research environment.

Benefits
