Principal RF CCA Failure Investigation Lead

RTX•Tucson, AZ
•$107,500 - $204,500•Onsite

About The Position

The Effector RF Design Department is responsible for developing RF and Microwave hardware, including transmitters, receivers, and exciters. This includes design, test, and supplier oversight activities that span preliminary design to integration. Products developed support radar applications on a variety of tactical missile programs. Critical to this role is designing for challenging mechanical constraints and extreme environments. The CCA Failure Investigation Lead is responsible for engineering leadership of an assigned team, consisting of multi-disciplinary skills, such as mechanical, software, electrical, and manufacturing, and provide RF subject matter expertise to the team. This role will seek out root cause and provide technical justification for hardware design and test changes to improve product performance, reliability, and factory yield for production throughput and First Pass Yield (FPY) for circuit card assemblies (CCAs), metal frames, covers, and next-higher-level assembly hardware. The Failure Investigation Lead partners closely with Operations, Test, Hardware Engineering, and Suppliers to resolve production failures and producibility improvements. This position is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience to include: Production support, hardware troubleshooting, test support, or integration of CCAs and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to diagnose issues across electronic and mechanical interfaces within next higher-level assemblies.
  • Familiarity with test stations, calibration requirements, and production test processes.
  • Strong ability to interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and test procedures
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in STEM field
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineers, project managers, finance, supply chain, and other team leads.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating across Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain.
  • Strong academic foundation in one or more of the following: Circuit Design (RF, Analog, and/or Digital), RF/Microwave Engineering, Production Experience
  • Experience leading daily engineering support for production lines or Slices.
  • Understanding of FPY improvement methods, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) practices, and data driven issue trending.
  • Familiarity with Raytheon failure review processes, variance documentation, material review boards, and production health reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical enclosure assemblies, CCA installation, and system-level integration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an RF CCA subject matter expert.
  • Lead daily engineering support for Failure Investigation and yield improvement activities.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution activities across CCAs, mechanical hardware, Pilot Line Facility (PLF) benches, and supplier benches as issues arise.
  • Partner with Operations to remove blockers in Work in Process (WIP), accelerate aged units, and maintain alignment with delivery commitments.
  • Lead root‑cause investigations for recurring failures or production escapes and implement corrective actions in coordination with responsible engineering teams.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of engineering actions, findings, and corrective measures in accordance with Raytheon process discipline.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce cycle time, improve FPY, and enhance manufacturing robustness.
