About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Principal Regulatory Scientist for their Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice, based in Philadelphia, PA, though other locations may be considered. This role involves managing projects, providing expertise in Federal and State regulatory matters, identifying new clients, and nurturing relationships with existing clients. The position requires a strong understanding of product stewardship and sustainability, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment. The Principal Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for business development, client management, project oversight (including deliverables, invoices, and budgets), and providing scientific and regulatory review. Mentoring junior staff is also a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Masters or Ph.D. degree in a science-related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of EPA TSCA regulatory experience.
  • Knowledge, solid understanding, and practical experience with U.S. EPA TSCA regulations for chemicals.
  • Ten (10) or more years of consulting experience.
  • Proven track record of business generation and attracting new and repeat clients or funding.
  • Outstanding reputation among clients and the scientific community for integrity, responsiveness, and technical expertise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to independently prepare, edit, and proofread technical and regulatory documents.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, pursuing, and securing new client engagements by understanding emerging needs and building long-term partnerships.
  • Maintaining and growing trusted relationships with existing clients by consistently delivering high-quality work, anticipating future needs, and serving as a strategic advisor.
  • Identifying new clients and new business marketing opportunities in related fields.
  • Developing clients through business development and marketing efforts.
  • Client management and project work; interacting directly with clients and regulators.
  • Managing and tracking client projects, project deliverables, invoices, and budgets.
  • Providing regulatory and technical review and quality control support for projects.
  • Synthesizing technical and regulatory information for clients and regulators.
  • Providing scientific technical peer review.
  • Mentoring junior staff.
