About The Position

The Principal R&D Engineer will serve as a technical leader within the Wound Management Center of Excellence, providing deep expertise in textile engineering, extrusion, and absorbable polymer science and processing technologies that are foundational to the suture business. This role is responsible for advancing next-generation suture materials, processes, and product platforms through the application of material science, process characterization, and design for manufacturability principles. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Serve as the subject matter expert for textile processing, and advanced material technologies across the Wound Management portfolio. Support new product development programs including technical feasibility assessments, process development, design verification, validation, and manufacturing transfer. Lead root cause investigations, CAPAs, and complex technical problem-solving efforts involving materials, processes, and product performance. Investigate and apply process-structure-property relationships of medical-grade polymers to support manufacturability, mechanical performance, long-term device reliability and clinical outcomes. Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to establish robust and scalable processes. TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD in Textile Engineering or Polymer Sciences with 3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in polymer processing, textile engineering, biomaterials, preferably in the medical devices industry is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with absorbable polymers, or sutures is preferred.
