About The Position

Imperative Care is seeking a Principal R&D Engineer, Mechanical Assemblies & Accessories to join their team in Campbell, California. This role is crucial in changing the way stroke is treated by developing breakthroughs that will revolutionize the future of stroke care. The engineer will be a subject matter expert in the design, continuous improvement, and manufacturability of commercialized neurovascular, endovascular or vascular products. This position requires deep expertise and leadership as an individual technical contributor, promoting new ideas and innovation. The role also involves mentoring and developing other R&D engineers and may include formal reporting line responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of 12 years of related experience in the medical device or related regulated industry; or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience in mechanical design, injection molded parts, catheter design, or similar electromechanical consumable devices preferred
  • Statistical analysis Software (Minitab or similar) and CAD (Solidworks, ProE, similar)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and exposure to product testing and data collection
  • Ability to be self-directed with minimal direction and supervision
  • Ability to take initiative to discern from multiple priorities when guiding a technical project team toward efficient solutions and opportunities
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% domestically

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned technical projects to drive value improvement, line extensions, and commercial compliance with quality systems and global regulatory requirements
  • Build neurovascular-endovascular catheter/controller prototypes using a variety of equipment
  • Conceptualize and/or prototype new product designs, add-ons, or enhancements through research, technical discussions, and interaction with SAB and R&D team members
  • Evaluate performance characteristics of new product designs and identify opportunities for new development or improvements based on customer feedback, technologies, and clinical needs
  • Lead risk analysis activities and develop product testing plans and protocols
  • Set up and run or lead product testing and protocols in accordance with project plans
  • Create new test methods and perform Design Verification testing, preparing detailed reports
  • Contribute to Design Validation activities (in-vivo and anatomical models) and usability studies (anatomical models, benchtop evaluation of prototypes)
