About The Position

The Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Charleston maintains the Moored Training Ships (MTS) and their support system to Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) standards so that NPTU Charleston can fulfil the vital role of providing nuclear-trained Sailors to the Fleet. MTS Engineering, located at NPTU Charleston, is seeking an experienced individual for a Quality Engineer role. The successful candidate will be responsible for interfacing with Navy and Civilian personnel who maintain the MTSs and their support systems to ensure they have the right training, engineering support, and supervision to perform first-time quality maintenance. This is an excellent position for those who desire experience with the technical requirements and oversight of maintenance as well as facilitating self-assessment and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
  • The position requires the successful completion of a 5-week Quality Assurance Officer course (QAOC) in Norfolk, VA or previous QAOC qualification.
  • All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.
  • All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707.

  • Can-do proactive approach that demonstrates self-motivation, commitment, ownership and personal accountability.
  • Prior MTS Operations or Naval Nuclear Power Program experience.
  • Familiarization with Project Management Principles.
  • Previous Quality Assurance Officer course qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight for site organizations to affect first time quality maintenance.
  • Conducting thorough documented surveillances of maintenance work in progress and audits of the supporting records of accomplishment.
  • Mentoring site organizations in conducting critical self-assessment to promote performance improvement.
  • Qualifying and maintaining an NPTU Charleston Emergency Response Organization Position is required for this position.
