About The Position

The Principal Project Engineer provides engineering management services and technical support to J&J Innovative Medicine at Gurabo Site, while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The role involves planning and completing site development and projects, ensuring that appropriate infrastructure and technology support existing and new business opportunities. A key focus is on reducing operational costs through technology optimization, improvements in material and people flow, and the application of lean principles. Effectively manages resources and influences business partners to meet budgetary, quality, efficiency, and EHS requirements for capital projects. This includes contributing to the development and approval of concepts, translating them into compliant designs with both local and federal laws, justify completing, and completing project plans. Additionally, oversees Site Master Plan projects in collaboration with internal and external partners, including site manufacturing and engineering leads, Engineering & Project Services (E&PS), Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT), and other support groups. Offers support and guidance to site engineering and manufacturing leads for the successful delivery of small projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering project management or related engineering areas (utilities, production maintenance).
  • Experience in duties similar to or closely related to those outlined in this document.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English and must have ability to write in both languages.
  • Availability to travel.
  • Work irregular shifts, frequently requires working extended hours, and may be required to work on holidays and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Business Excellence Black Belt or Green Belt certification is desirable.
  • Registration as an engineer is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Site Master Plan projects in collaboration with internal and external partners, including site manufacturing and engineering leads, Engineering & Project Services (E&PS), Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT), and other support groups.
  • Provide support and guidance to site engineering and manufacturing leads for the scope, budget, schedule, and team definitions for small projects, ensuring overall project execution and deployment.
  • Oversee project management of capital projects, including developing User Requirement Specifications and concept packages with guidance from business partners, sponsors, and customers.
  • Responsibilities include drafting the project charter, preparing the Capital Appropriation Request, creating the project plan and communication plan, assembling and managing the team, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with critical quality requirements, managing the budget, performing business partners analysis, and justifying financial and business benefits at both site and upper management levels.
  • Translate concepts into designs that meet company, local, state, federal, and market-oriented regulations.
  • Manage internal and external resources responsible for completing projects and initiatives while ensuring compliance with EHS, Quality, and Operational requirements.
  • Support and manage large-scale and complex projects that significantly impact site goals.
  • Identify, justify, and implement productivity and compliance improvement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing labor utilization, material flow, GMP, EHS, and information management within Supply Chain operations at the site.
  • Use Project Portfolio Management software as a project management tool for all capital projects under your responsibility.
  • Present and provide periodic project status updates to senior management, sponsors, and project business partners.
  • Ensure consistent communication and alignment through the execution of a comprehensive communication plan and change management processes.
