About The Position

The Principal, Product Manager will serve as the company lead on distributed energy resource (DER) valuation. The position is high-visibility both internally and externally and will lead development of policy and strategy on DER valuation approaches. This work requires developing, testing, and refining valuation models for internal program and project analysis, as well as testing and identifying improvements to public California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) models. The Principal, Product Manager will also develop methodologies for quantifying the DER value of new and existing load management solutions to determine which DER efforts provide the greatest value and whether those efforts are more cost-effective relative to supply-side procurement and T&D infrastructure projects. The Principal, Product Manager will interface with other LMS&P team members working on load management strategy and policy, DER integration, program and product development (e.g. vehicle-grid integration (VGI) and behind-the-meter batteries), and planning frameworks like the integrated resource plan (IRP). Activities include developing short and long-term strategies, advocating for favorable policies, performing quick turnaround analysis, developing valuation models, and executing on requirements that arise from regulatory proceedings at the CPUC and California Energy Commission (CEC).  The Principal, Product Manager will conduct quantitative and qualitative work to support various regulatory proceedings, pilots, and strategy efforts; write comments, testimony, and reports; project manage valuation efforts; develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and communicate recommendations to stakeholders, including the executive team. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Marketing, Psychology, or related.
  • 10 years of related experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Lead policy analysis for regulatory proceedings, and act as subject matter expert for ongoing regulatory and policy activities, as load management policies and regulation continue to be developed and deployed.
  • Lead DER valuation discussions with the CPUC, CEC, California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and other stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional teams within PG&E to develop policy positions.
  • Author testimony and prepare analytic support for regulatory filings and present complex analysis to leadership or external parties.
  • Represent the company at regulatory proceedings, industry forums and events to communicate our load management and DER valuation positions and advocate for innovative solutions.
  • Lead the development and ongoing use of analytical tools, including complex econometric modeling, forecasting, data analysis, and evaluation, to help inform PG&E's internal load management and DER strategy.
  • Construct and maintain analytic models and valuation tools, analyze regulatory and financial impacts and other relevant industry data to support program and strategy development.
  • Conduct and use research and data to shape products, direction, advocacy, or program plans.
  • Develop and present executive and board-level materials to gain buy-in from key decision makers.
  • Lead PG&E's efforts on DER valuation, which involves excellent project management skills to coordinate across a variety of stakeholders.
  • Develop, ideate, and manage DER valuation roadmap and tool deployment, which includes defining scope of work, estimating budget (where needed), managing deliverables and schedule, and reporting.
  • Manage external contractors, including developing and maintaining contracts and reviewing and processing invoices.
