We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to join the Microsoft Discovery team. You will play an integral role in defining and executing a new vision for AI-driven science platform development. This opportunity will allow you to accelerate your career growth, expand domain impact, and deliver at a startup pace. This is a Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA based position, with an expectation that you will be available to collaborate in person on campus. You should have experience in strategy, product management, and cross-functional execution. Experience with enterprise products and driving adoption would be a plus. Your expertise in new products, verticals, and taking something from inception to scale will be essential in setting the industry standard. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
  • 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
  • 6+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
  • 4+ years experience shipping production-ready code as a result of a collaborative process
  • Experience as a full stack builder
  • Experience developing with the latest AI-assisted development tools and systems
  • Experience in scientific R&D, particularly in chemistry and materials science, bio and life-sciences, or silicon and physics.
  • Track record of setting strategy and converting it into executed, measurable outcomes across multiple planning cycles.
  • Proven organizational skills with a track record of managing complex, multi‑team programs.
  • Demonstrable cross-functional leadership and communication; able to influence engineering and partner teams without direct authority.
  • Experience defining product strategy using customer insights, data, and experimentation.
  • Experience partnering directly with enterprise customers to identify unmet needs and validate product direction.
  • Familiarity with modern AI technologies, agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), automation, or workflow orchestration.
  • Passion for building products that help customers achieve meaningful business outcomes at global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a new vision for AI-driven science platform development.
  • Work with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, designers, scientists, and researchers to build new product experiences.
  • Shape underlying AI capabilities that support these experiences.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and high-craft product making.
  • Influence others to drive business impact across the organization.
  • Track success criteria for multiple feature areas across divisions.
  • Identify long-term investment opportunities and engage partners to garner support for those feature areas.
  • Define a feature set and facilitate senior-level usability reviews with customers.
  • Own the roadmap for multiple feature areas across divisions.
  • Collaborate with a partner team to build golden configurations and drive scenario walkthroughs.
  • Scale Product Marketing teams by building marketing and roll-out plans.
  • Lead the creation of customer support plans.
  • Take advantage of major opportunities to promote feature areas and present at large events.
  • Partner to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs to improve product development.
  • Identify features to deprecate.
  • Manage customer communities.
  • Build trust with targeted customers across sectors.
