About The Position

Atlassian is seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead product design across the Developer Intelligence (DX) platform. DX helps engineering leaders understand how work gets done, improve developer experience, and make better decisions about productivity and AI. This role involves combining self-reported insights from developers with data from software systems to generate actionable insights. The Design at DX team is fast-paced, hands-on, and collaborative, with designers partnering closely with Product and Engineering from concept to implementation. Designers are expected to stay close to customers and go-to-market partners, and contribute to both product strategy and user experience. The team utilizes AI and code to bring ideas to life and contribute to the production codebase, while also engaging with the broader Atlassian design community.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product design experience, including ownership of complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Deep experience designing data-rich B2B SaaS products, particularly reporting or analytics experiences that balance opinionated guidance with flexible self-service exploration.
  • Exceptional interaction design, information architecture, visual design, data visualization, accessibility, and systems-thinking skills, with experience applying or extending design systems across complex products.
  • The ability to simplify complex data and technical concepts without sacrificing analytical depth or trust.
  • Strong product judgment and experience influencing strategy, roadmaps, and priorities—not only delivering design artifacts.
  • Experience leading research and translating qualitative and quantitative evidence into product direction.
  • Demonstrated use of AI throughout the design process—from research and prototyping through code and iteration—paired with strong judgment about where AI should change the customer experience and where it shouldn’t.
  • The ability to move quickly, make pragmatic trade-offs, and maintain a high quality bar with lightweight process.
  • Principal-level influence: creating clarity amid ambiguity, aligning senior partners, and guiding designers without reporting authority.
  • Clear written and verbal communication across technical, product, customer-facing, and executive audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience with developer tools, conversational and agentic AI products, or hands-on front-end development is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set the end-to-end experience vision for DX, creating coherence across product surfaces and customer journeys while aligning with the broader Atlassian product ecosystem.
  • Partner with the Head of Product and Head of Engineering to shape product strategy, roadmap priorities, and the backlog.
  • Turn complex engineering data into coherent, persona- and jobs-to-be-done-based experiences through information architecture, interaction design, data visualization, and analytical workflows.
  • Lead customer research and involve Product and Engineering so teams develop a shared understanding of customer needs.
  • Lead high-impact work from customer discovery and problem framing through implementation, QA, and post-launch iteration.
  • Use AI-native workflows and code to make design intent concrete through working prototypes, contribute directly to production, and iterate based on live usage.
  • Shape how AI changes the DX product experience—including conversational and agentic workflows—and how our teams discover, design, build, and ship it.
  • Define and track experience outcomes—including time to insight, task success, adoption, and satisfaction—and use them to guide iteration.
  • Establish scalable patterns and frameworks that improve consistency across DX, partnering with Atlassian teams to align with the Atlassian Design System and address emerging product needs.
  • Partner with leadership to set design priorities across DX and bring the right designers into high-impact work.
  • Lead design syncs and critiques, provide hands-on feedback, and mentor designers across the team.
