Principal Product Designer, Design Systems

Pluralsight
$148,000 - $195,000Hybrid

About The Position

Pluralsight is in the middle of a bold, defining transformation — and our design systems work sits right at the heart of it. As our Principal Product Designer, Design Systems, you'll be the keeper of Pando, our shared design language, setting the architectural direction that helps every designer and engineer across the org ship better, more consistent work, faster. This is a role for someone who thrives on ambiguity and high-leverage problems, where your decisions on structure, standards, and process become the org's default. You'll help shape what's next for our product experience, grow your own craft as you build systems infrastructure designed to scale for years, and help our broader design and engineering community thrive together through hands-on mentorship, office hours, and deep cross-team partnership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in product design, with a substantial portion focused on design systems work.
  • A demonstrated track record defining component and token architecture for an entire system at a B2B SaaS company — not just contributing components within one.
  • Experience designing, governing, and scaling a comparable enterprise-scale design system, including component libraries, token architecture, and governance models.
  • Working knowledge of front-end implementation (HTML/CSS, Code Connect or equivalent), used to credibly influence engineering architecture decisions.
  • A track record defining and communicating a design system roadmap, along with the metrics that prove it's working (adoption, coverage, defect rate, time-to-implement, or similar).
  • Experience establishing accessibility as infrastructure — token- and component-level governance and WCAG expertise — rather than a manual gate.
  • Comfort using AI to streamline your own workflow and help your work ship on time.
  • Proven ability to build a data-backed business case that has changed what got prioritized or staffed.
  • A university degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is typical for this level; demonstrated impact and scope of work matter more than years of tenure.

Responsibilities

  • Define component architecture and compositional philosophy across the system, leading review of component work to elevate quality and brand consistency org-wide.
  • Design token architecture (primitive → semantic → component) that scales to new themes and brand variants, identifying and remediating structural token debt along the way.
  • Build documentation and governance infrastructure that scales independent of your day-to-day involvement, using adoption data to close gaps before they surface as one-off requests.
  • Partner directly with engineering to build the tooling and working norms that keep design and engineering roadmaps in sync, not siloed.
  • Scale accessibility so it's a structural default — not a manual check — across new themes and components, partnering with our Accessibility Specialist on org-level investment.
  • Own and articulate the system's roadmap, define how its effectiveness is measured, and maintain a data-backed business case that directly influences prioritization and resourcing.

Benefits

  • competitive compensation
  • bonus eligibility
  • comprehensive medical coverage
  • unlimited PTO
  • wellness reimbursement
  • professional development funds
