About The Position

The Principal Platform Engineer is a visionary technical leader who defines and drives the platform engineering future across a modern DevSecOps ecosystem spanning GitLab SaaS, JFrog Artifactory, SonarQube, and Ansible Automation Platform. You will architect the convergence of enterprise CI/CD, governance-as-code, and agentic AI automation, building self-healing, AI-integrated platforms that empower thousands of developers to ship faster, safer, and smarter. This role shapes long-term platform strategy, drives GitLab Duo and Event-Driven Ansible into production at scale, and leads a high-performing team through a once-in-a-generation DevSecOps transformation. The best platform engineers don't just build tools, they build the future of how software gets made. If you see AI not as a feature but as the foundation of the next platform generation and you want to build the rails that a top-10 U.S. bank's engineering future runs on, this is your seat.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Deep knowledge of multiple programming languages, software architecture, and design principles.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, deployment, and security practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent advanced technical education.
  • Hands-on expertise with GitLab SaaS/Dedicated including pipeline authoring, runner fleet management, protected branch policy, and GitLab Duo agentic AI integration across the full SDLC spanning Fix Failed Pipelines, SAST Vulnerability Remediation, and Software Development Flow.
  • Deep experience with JFrog Artifactory covering repository management, promotion policies, vulnerability remediation, and artifact governance at enterprise scale.
  • Proficiency with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) including organization and inventory design, RBAC, Event-Driven Ansible (EDA), and golden-path job template strategy across tens of thousands of automations, with experience integrating AAP with AI-driven orchestration and GenAI workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience with SonarQube quality gate design, zero-trust security patterns, secrets management, container vulnerability scanning, and SAST/SCA hard-gate enforcement at enterprise scale.
  • Advanced understanding of platform resiliency, chaos engineering, and graceful degradation with experience building OpenTelemetry observability pipelines across distributed, AI-augmented, event-driven architectures.
  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-scale platform migrations in a regulated financial services environment, translating architectural vision into measurable developer velocity, compliance posture, and lasting business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Implements software architecture and engineering approaches for complex, high impact initiatives that support strategic goals set by executives and senior leadership, and establishes technical plans for the area of responsibility.
  • Adopts, refines, and promotes advanced software engineering standards, practices, and governance mechanisms within the domain, enabling multiple teams to improve quality, reliability, and delivery outcomes.
  • Partners with senior technology leadership, product, and architecture teams to shape technology strategy for the domain, providing deep technical insight and proposing solution patterns that influence roadmaps and priorities.
  • Leads the end-to-end technical design and implementation of scalable, secure, and highly available software solutions, delivering reference implementations that inform new products and platforms.
  • Resolves complex technical issues in the area of responsibility, designing innovative architectures and performance, reliability, and scalability improvements that advance business objectives.
  • Provides technical leadership, guidance, coaching, and training to engineers across teams, raising the technical bar through reviews, design sessions, and knowledge sharing activities.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies and research relevant to the domain, building prototypes and solution concepts that provide measurable input into new products, features, or capabilities.
  • Contributes directly to long-term technical plans for the area of responsibility through well reasoned recommendations, design proposals, and implementation experience.
  • Leads large, complex projects and processes, coordinating technical work across multiple teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes.
  • Works independently with substantial autonomy, demonstrating technical innovation while balancing risk, and making engineering decisions that meaningfully impact results for the division.
