Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is hiring a Principal or Sr. Principal Aircraft Loads Engineer to join our Vehicle Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals in Melbourne, Florida or El Segundo, CA.

Requirements

  • Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of relevant experience; OR Masters of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 3 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of relevant experience
  • Sr. Principal Engineer: BS in a STEM discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR MS in a STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with aircraft loads (flight/aero loads, ground loads)
  • Must have an active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering with an emphasis on aircraft loads (flight loads, ground loads)
  • Advanced knowledge of detailed ground and flight loads and load mitigation
  • Experience with analysis of flight / ground loads to include steady state maneuvers, abrupt maneuvers, gust response, control surface hinge moments, and developing loads for miscellaneous conditions such as canopy, door, pressurization, engine mount, external store, tie-down/mooring, and aerial refueling.
  • Experience in the use of industry standard loads and dynamics analysis software such as NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, ZONAIR, ZAERO, ZEUS
  • Experience with MATLAB and CAD Tools (NX)

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis for flight loads.
  • Be proactive, forward-thinking, and able to work with a small team to rapid resolution of complex technical loads problems.
  • Convey complex technical problems diplomatically and professionally to both other engineering disciplines and leadership.
  • Work well in a team environment and form connections across disciplines including flight controls, mass properties, stress, and mechanism teams.
