About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking dependable individuals to join their Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit in Annapolis, MD. The Mechanical Engineering Department is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team. This role is part of the Northrop Grumman SkillBridge Program, which allows service members preparing for civilian careers to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Participants will work on-site, gaining experience in an entry to mid-level career path with on-the-job training equivalent to 40 hours per week. The program aims to provide separating service members with job skills training in a professional setting, offering hands-on experience with the potential for full-time conversion upon completion. Participants will also receive professional development, networking opportunities with leadership, and training focused on leadership principles, company history, customer engagement, product overviews, and core job responsibilities. The goal is to create a pipeline for motivated military candidates into Northrop Grumman.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean Engineering or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of experience or MS degree with 3 years of experience (for Principal Mechanical Engineer).
  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean Engineering or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of experience or MS degree with 6 years of experience or PhD with 4 years of experience (for Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer).
  • Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
  • Ability to work on site at Annapolis, MD campus.
  • A current/active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty (SkillBridge Eligibility).
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement (SkillBridge Eligibility).
  • Will receive an honorable discharge (SkillBridge Eligibility).
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS (SkillBridge Eligibility).
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months (SkillBridge Eligibility).
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship (SkillBridge Eligibility).

Nice To Haves

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience with undersea vehicle and system design.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with CI poly.

Responsibilities

  • Concept development, problem solving, technical planning, design development and integration & testing of undersea hardware.
