Principal, Mission Engineering Capabilities

Nou Systems IncArlington, VA

About The Position

nou Systems, Inc. (nSI) is seeking a Principal, Mission Engineering Capabilities to help define, build, and advance a differentiated mission engineering capability across the company. This is not intended to be solely a traditional Mission Engineering, Digital Engineering, or Model-Based Systems Engineering position. Rather, the Principal will help integrate these and other complementary disciplines—including modeling and simulation, systems engineering, data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital twins, experimentation, and related technologies—to help customers understand complex mission problems, evaluate alternatives, make better investment decisions, and deliver improved operational capability. This is a highly collaborative, cross-company leadership role reporting directly to the President and CEO. The Principal will work closely with nSI's Business Development organization, Engineering Services Division, Technical Solutions Division, corporate leadership team, and technical leaders and subject-matter experts across the company. The position is intentionally entrepreneurial and is expected to evolve as nSI's capabilities, customers, partners, technologies, and market opportunities develop.

Requirements

  • Significant technical depth and leadership experience in mission-level engineering and the integration of complex technical capabilities.
  • Broad understanding of disciplines such as Mission Engineering, Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital twins, experimentation, or related technical areas.
  • Ability to develop technical strategies, roadmaps, methodologies, and new organizational capabilities.
  • Experience working across organizational and technical boundaries to bring together diverse disciplines and subject-matter experts.
  • Ability to translate complex customer and mission problems into practical technical approaches and investment priorities.
  • Experience supporting business development activities such as opportunity shaping, capture strategy, solution development, technical writing, white papers, or proposals.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate with significant autonomy in an entrepreneurial environment and help define a capability that is still evolving.
  • Ability to mentor and develop technical leaders and foster collaboration across teams.
  • Ability to travel to nSI offices, customer locations, conferences, and other locations as needed.
  • Must successfully complete applicable nSI pre-employment requirements, which may include background screening, employment eligibility verification, and security requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any security clearance or access required for assigned responsibilities.
  • Where applicable, must comply with Government ethics, procurement-integrity, post-Government-employment, recusal, or other restrictions associated with current or prior Government service.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for most positions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and help execute a company-wide strategy and roadmap for mission engineering capabilities.
  • Assess nSI's existing people, contracts, technologies, tools, intellectual property, customer relationships, and technical strengths that can contribute to this capability.
  • Identify the technical disciplines, methodologies, tools, partnerships, and investments required to establish a differentiated mission engineering capability.
  • Integrate Mission Engineering, Digital Engineering, MBSE, modeling and simulation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital twins, experimentation, systems engineering, and related capabilities where they create customer value.
  • Identify priority markets, mission areas, customers, programs, partnerships, and business opportunities where nSI can provide distinctive value.
  • Support technical strategy, capture planning, solution development, white papers, proposals, and other business-development activities.
  • Help Engineering Services develop rigorous, repeatable mission engineering methodologies, frameworks, and service offerings.
  • Help Technical Solutions identify technology investments, IR&D opportunities, product concepts, partnerships, and commercialization opportunities.
  • Evaluate opportunities to develop proprietary technologies as well as situations in which nSI should leverage, license, integrate, acquire, or partner with existing capabilities.
  • Recommend areas for IR&D, SBIR-related development, strategic partnerships, technology acquisition, licensing, and internally developed capabilities.
  • Establish technical methodologies, best practices, communities of practice, and workforce-development activities.
  • Mentor and develop technical leaders across the company.
  • Strengthen collaboration among nSI's technical divisions, Business Development organization, and corporate leadership.
