About The Position

The Advanced Airframes Department is currently hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer that will be located on site in Tucson, Arizona. Tasks will include design, integration, and test of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across engineering teams to ensure successful hardware performance, usually demonstrated through flight tests. This role may also include leading small teams in the completion of above tasks. The focus of this role will be looking at an existing development design and working to bring design updates to meet future production needs. Individual must have active Secret clearance.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), or basic tolerance analyses, and/or drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware.
  • Experience with CAD design tools.
  • Experience overseeing suppliers in the fabrication and/or production of mechanical hardware.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with any of the following; airframe development, or electronics packaging, and/or mechanisms for missiles or similar engineering applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Collaborating across multiple engineering groups with Structural and Thermal analyst, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain.
  • Lead a team(s) with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
  • Support suppliers with product integration
  • Strong understanding of Thermal, Structural, and Dynamic analysis to provide inputs and support.
  • Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.
  • Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
  • Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.
