About The Position

This position is focused on the mechanical design, development, and manufacturing of stationary and mobile antenna systems and related equipment. The role involves working as part of multiple integrated product teams, sometimes as the lead mechanical engineer and other times in a support or advisory capacity. Responsibilities include hands-on design and analysis, mentoring junior engineers, preparing and presenting design materials for reviews, creating manufacturing documentation, supporting environmental testing, interfacing with production personnel and suppliers, and contributing to business development activities.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering and product design and development.
  • Advanced capability in the design and analysis of positioner drive systems.
  • Advanced capability in designing for producibility, reliability, and ease of assembly and maintenance.
  • Knowledge in the areas of materials, structural and thermal analysis, dynamics, vibration and mechanical shock, heat transfer, finite element analysis, and composite structures.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques such as machining, forming, casting, injection molding, and additive manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of fasteners, adhesives, coatings, and related industry specifications.
  • Solid modeling, engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Well versed in configuration management.
  • Technically proficient in MS Office products.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with ThinKom personnel as well as suppliers and customers.
  • Ability to effectively present information in team meetings and design reviews.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and hold a US DoD Security Clearance in Support of US Government contracts/subcontracts.
  • Follow ThinKom corporate policies and design procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • MS preferred.
  • Experience with precision positioners and the design or selection of bearings is preferred.
  • Experience with Creo is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of multiple integrated product teams, potentially leading or supporting.
  • Perform hands-on design and analysis, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Prepare and present design and analysis material during internal and customer design reviews.
  • Prepare detailed product manufacturing documentation such as test procedures and assembly instructions.
  • Support component and antenna system level environmental testing.
  • Interface with ThinKom production personnel and outside suppliers during manufacturing phase of programs.
  • Support business development activities by providing input for proposals.
