Principal Mechanical Engineer Denver / Englewood Colorado Role Summary The Principal Mechanical Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, specification, and delivery of mechanical systems within EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects. This role focuses heavily on rotating equipment, pressure vessels, and other major mechanical equipment, ensuring designs meet project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations. The position also plays a key role in cross-functional coordination. This position is based in Englewood, Colorado and follows a 3-day hybrid schedule at the Worley office. Remote work is not available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Colorado), with ability to obtain licensure in additional states preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in an EPC or similar project-based environment
  • Strong experience with rotating equipment and pressure vessels
  • Solid understanding of process conditions (pressure, temperature, flow, materials) and their impact on mechanical design
  • Proven ability to work across disciplines and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and vendor documentation

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering scope for EPC projects from concept through execution
  • Design, specify, and review rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines), pressure vessels and other major mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with process engineering to understand operating conditions and translate them into mechanical design requirements
  • Interface effectively with other mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams (process, piping, electrical, project management)
  • Review vendor drawings, datasheets, and technical bids for accuracy and compliance
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality oversight to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Support procurement, construction, and commissioning phases as needed
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and provide practical, cost-effective solutions
