The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide the necessary technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to the mechanical staff in their operating groups. They will ensure total quality of all engineering efforts and assist in appropriate fee development. They will assist the San Antonio Architectural Manager in meeting project delivery goals, manage project manhour efforts and client expectations. They may serve as the Project Engineer when dictated by the project size, complexity or client request. This position is part of our Critical Infrastructure team. Requirements

  • Working knowledge of HVAC cooling-heating load analysis software is required.
  • Must be familiar with the IMC – International Mechanical Code as well as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
  • Proficiency in utilizing CAD and Microsoft Office software packages associated with engineering is required.
  • 4-year degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and 10-15 years of related work experience.
  • Professional Engineer registration required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Trane Load Design and Trane Trace is not required but recommended.
  • Familiarity with LEED requirements with a LEED BC&D certification is desired.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, 55, ASHRAE 170 AND SMACNA 006-2006 is desired.
  • Understanding of industry standard commissioning procedures or techniques is preferred.
  • Familiarity with eQuest/DOE-2 and Building Life Cycle Cost (BLCC) software is desired.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is desired but not required

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
  • Provides design of complex HVAC systems for hospitals, laboratories and other special ventilation and air conditioning projects for data centers, clean rooms, government and commercial buildings.
  • Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs as needed for HVAC system documentation.
  • Perform industry-standard (ASHRAE or equivalent) energy audits. This will require working independently to develop action plans prior to executing energy audits, properly organizing information gathered, and identification of recommendations.
  • Perform industry-standard energy calculations (such as weather-based BIN calculations and trends analysis).
  • Assist or perform existing building commissioning.
  • Analyze data and building management system programming for performance and energy savings improvements.
  • Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
