About The Position

Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) is a world leader in the research, design, and manufacturing of focal plane arrays and flight-based vision systems supporting a myriad of defense, surveillance, space, and weather tracking applications. We have an immediate opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Goleta, California. The candidate will be responsible for the oversite and assembly of Focal Plane Modules from implementation of design to shipment. Provide engineering support for the manufacturing factory, interpret engineering drawings and specifications into build plans, create schedules and oversee nonrecurring and recurring tasks to support program builds. Create and maintain Bill of Materials, generate planning documents, manage process and tooling activities, review, and disposition discrepant material, manage budgets, interface with manufacturing personnel, lead problem solving efforts and corrective actions. Disposition non-conforming material with root cause and corrective action analysis as required. Perform operator training, as required. Perform and support First Article Inspections assuring hardware meets all quality requirements flowed down from the program. Conduct process audits to assure compliance. Create and update work instructions for use by manufacturing operations. Participate in the design of fixtures and tooling. Engage with factory area leads to address systemic issues and provide root cause/corrective action/preventive action to reduce scrap and rework.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in Semiconductor, Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing and/or Process Engineering.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Read and understand technical data including drawings, and specifications.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) for daily communications, tracking, and documenting manufacturing processes for assembly.
  • Write manufacturing plans and instructions in accordance with engineering specifications, quality requirements, safety needs, and security requirements.
  • Generate Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Participate in tooling reviews and provide evaluation and feedback of tool designs.
  • Review hardware for compliance; generate work/rework/repair documentation; perform troubleshooting to support production activities.
  • Determine the causes of defects and improve processes through updates to work instructions, tooling, process, programs, or equipment.
  • Present results of investigations to peers and management at Corrective Action Board (CAB).
  • Troubleshoot to support production activities and project deliver.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in military and commercial manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with ERP and MES systems.
  • SAP/ CMES experienced preferred.
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in Statistical Process Control, Gage R&Rs, Capability Studies, Design of Experiments (DOE) or other quantitative continuous improvement tools.
  • Experience in a production environment closely teaming with all levels of manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Experience in cleanroom work environments and knowledge of cleanroom principles.
  • Self-motivated and possess good written communication skills, especially in documenting processes for assembly.
  • Experience in complex problem solving with attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and willing to work varying assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work as part of an Integrated Product Team.
  • Budgeting and presentation skills.

Responsibilities
