The person in this role will be Minnesota based with a strong preference to work from the Medtronic facility located in Mounds View, Minnesota. The Principal IT Project Manager reports to the Head of IT GO&SC (Global Operations & Supply Chain) Portfolio and is responsible for governing and delivering a multi‑year, multi‑million‑dollar IT investment set of projects, encompassing 10+ initiatives and a FY27 budget exceeding $5M. The Principal IT Project Manager provides end‑to‑end oversight of all IT initiatives to ensure dependencies, priorities, and capacity are effectively managed, while directly leading select programs and projects. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to drive business case and benefits management, financial and resource oversight, risk and quality management, and stakeholder engagement. The Principal IT Project Manager partners closely with business leaders, ensures high‑quality projects data in Planisware, supports organizational development and continuous improvement of project management practices, and quickly develops working knowledge of digital transformation areas including GenAI, hyper automation, supply operating models, master data, CRM, and vendor management. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading IT and business projects
  • Medtronic knowledge is a plus
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business case development and benefits realization across program execution, ensuring strategic alignment, financial oversight, capacity and priority management, and high‑quality Planisware records.
  • Drive effective stakeholder management and communications, partner closely with business leaders, manage risks and issues, and ensure strong quality, governance, and delivery discipline.
  • Advance organizational development through continuous improvement of PM training, processes, and tools, while rapidly adopting and supporting digital transformation initiatives including GenAI, hyper automation, SOM, Supply Chain, master data, CRM, and vendor management.
  • Partner with Plan, Build, and Run leaders and senior stakeholders to define business needs, shape IT investments, and prioritize high‑impact initiatives aligned to business strategy, long‑term vision, timelines, milestones, and budgets.
  • Provide strong leadership across planning and delivery by engaging project managers and functional teams to ensure operational feasibility, effective resource allocation, quality execution, and proactive risk and issue mitigation.
  • Balance the what and the how by achieving core delivery metrics (cost, quality, service, safety) while fostering accountability, simplicity, and a results‑driven culture through clear, consistent communication and executive engagement.
  • Strengthen project management governance and decision‑making by improving policies, standards, and oversight, and providing clear, data‑driven recommendations to leadership.
  • Effectively manage internal and external resources by coordinating with partners, aligning skills and capacity to project needs, and monitoring delivery performance to ensure consistent outcomes.
  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement by optimizing costs, reducing duplication, and improving collaboration across teams and partners to elevate overall execution quality.
  • Provide strategic oversight and transparency across active projects by monitoring in‑flight project performance, managing dependencies and risks, and delivering clear, actionable reporting aligned to long‑term business objectives.
  • Enable consistent, high‑quality execution by supporting and coaching project managers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with strong quality, while driving adherence to Medtronic delivery frameworks, tools, and compliance standards.
  • Strengthen collaboration and scalability by partnering with architects and technical leaders to align technology decisions with business strategy, promote future‑ready architectures, and continuously improve ways of working.
  • Continuously measure performance through key KPIs and identify the actual benefits delivered against the projected outcomes, ensuring that the projects remain focused on value realization aligned with strategic objectives and timelines.
  • Partner with IT Finance to manage, report and forecast AOP financials.
  • Proactively share success stories and key performance insights with leadership, to celebrate significant accomplishments.
