Principal Infrastructure & Platform Architect

FiservRemote, Pennsylvania, PA
Onsite

About The Position

As a Principal Infrastructure & Platform Architect at Fiserv, you will provide deep technical leadership across the enterprise. This role is responsible for shaping the architecture of mission-critical, low-latency, high-availability platforms that underpin Fiserv’s most important business capabilities. You will function as a recognized technical authority, influencing architectural direction across multiple organizations and initiatives. Working from first principles, you will balance performance, reliability, security, governance, and lifecycle considerations to create platforms that scale sustainably and deliver measurable business impact. This role is expected to influence architectural decisions beyond a single program or team, shaping platform direction and engineering standards across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of deep technical experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, systems architecture, or enterprise architecture roles.
  • Proven track record of enterprise-scale impact, designing and influencing highly available, low-latency, distributed systems used across multiple teams or business units.
  • Deep understanding of Linux system internals, networking, and infrastructure platforms (data center, cloud, or hybrid).
  • Experience across a wide range of technologies including distributed systems, databases (relational and non-relational), and data or messaging platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to design systems with strong security, auditability, governance, and lifecycle management requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation and zero-downtime or rolling deployment architectures.
  • Hands-on systems programming experience required, with the ability to design, build, debug, and reason about complex systems through code when needed. This includes deep experience in one or more languages such as Python, C/C++, Java, Erlang, Elixir, Prolog, R, Julia, or similar, with an emphasis on architectural correctness, performance, and reliability rather than routine feature development.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively across engineering, operations, security, and executive stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating at enterprise or platform-of-platforms scale, influencing architecture across multiple domains.
  • Background in ITSM, CMDB-driven environments, or service management platforms.
  • Experience with streaming data, large-scale data platforms, or real-time analytics systems.
  • Exposure to machine learning systems and data-driven automation.
  • Experience modernizing legacy, business-critical systems into resilient, elastic, cloud-enabled or hybrid architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise-wide architectural leadership for infrastructure and platform services supporting low-latency, high-throughput, and highly resilient systems.
  • Define and evolve reference architectures, architectural principles, and design standards used across multiple teams and technology domains.
  • Lead the design of complex systems end-to-end—from bare metal and operating systems through networking, storage, and distributed platform services.
  • Drive architectural decisions that materially improve reliability, resiliency, observability, and operability at scale.
  • Influence standards for business continuity, disaster recovery, security controls, vulnerability management, and governance.
  • Architect platforms that enable and integrate with IT service management (ITSM), configuration management databases (CMDBs), lifecycle management, and operational governance frameworks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and guide responsible adoption, including streaming data platforms, modern data architectures, and machine-learning-enabled systems.
  • Act as a technical mentor and thought leader, providing architecture reviews, design guidance, and hands-on problem solving for the organization’s most complex challenges.

Benefits

  • Fiserv considers in-person collaboration essential for enterprise alignment, architectural influence, and onboarding effectiveness.
  • This role may require participation in strategic on-call or escalation support for critical platforms.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours as needed to support high-impact initiatives.
