About The Position

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Principal I&C Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. This role involves defining the scope of technical programs, developing effective solutions to complex challenges, and ensuring quality, timely, and cost-effective results. The Principal I&C Engineer will provide guidance to less senior professionals and apply advanced technical practices to problem-solving and program planning. This position requires expertise in a functional area and the ability to provide direction on programs seeking new approaches. The role also includes evaluating program results, preparing reports, identifying areas for improvement, and staying informed about technological advancements. Responsibilities include preparing plans with schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements, monitoring progress and expenditures, and communicating results to stakeholders. Additionally, the role involves enhancing expertise through local technical societies and demonstrating creativity through various professional outputs. The position provides design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS, with primary responsibilities including engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development, and generating design output documents such as P&IDs, Control Logics, Loop Diagrams, Instrument Indices, Setpoint Lists, Instrument and Control Valve Specifications, DCS and PLC Design, Instrument Location and Installation Design, Panel Layouts, and Vendor Document Review. Engineering services will be provided using SRNS processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance from SRNS.

Requirements

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
Candidate must demonstrate ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
Candidate must demonstrate design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and distributed control systems.
Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software is required.
Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience.
A MS with 8+ years’ experience.
A BS with 10+ years’ experience or more.
BS Degree in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the above disciplines.

Nice To Haves

Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.

Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
Perform engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: P&IDs Control Logics; Loop Diagrams; Instrument Indices; Setpoint Lists; Instrument and Control Valve Specifications; DCS and PLC Design; Instrument Location and Installation Design; Panel Layouts; and Vendor Document Review.
Perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
