About The Position

The Principal, Global Solution Architect is the senior technical leader responsible for enterprise-wide solution architecture across all IT domains, including infrastructure, security, end-user experience/digital workplace, business applications, integration, data/analytics, and AI. This role provides technical expertise to a global Solution Architecture team and ensures technology solutions align with business strategy. Operating within a Microsoft-first ecosystem (Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics, Microsoft 365), the role partners with closely with business and IT leaders to enable scalable platforms, integrations, data, and AI capabilities. The role chairs the Architecture Review Board and has final architecture recommendation authority prior to VP of IT approval for major change initiatives. The ideal candidate will reside in Raleigh-Durham / Chapel Hill, NC; however, for the right candidate this role can be remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) plus years of progressive solution architecture experience across infrastructure/cloud, security, business applications, integration, and data/analytics, including leadership responsibility for large scale, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong integration and data/analytics expertise enabling scalable AI use cases.
  • Experience leading and mentoring global teams, partnering with senior stakeholders and supporting M&A due diligence and integration.
  • Enterprise and solution architecture mastery, including target state architecture design and multi-year roadmaps and architecture governance across infrastructure, security, end-user experience, applications, data, and AI/Gen capabilities.
  • Strong Microsoft ecosystem depth (Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics, Microsoft 365) including identity/security concepts, Azure AI and the ability to standardize appropriately.
  • Cloud platform and infrastructure architecture expertise (e.g., landing zones, networking, identity foundations, resilience/DR, observability) with the ability to define pragmatic standards and reference architectures.
  • Security architecture competence (e.g., security-by-design, Zero Trust concepts, IAM, data protection, risk-based controls) and the ability to embed security into architecture standards and reviews.
  • Integration architecture expertise (API/integration patterns, SaaS lifecycle decisions, and cross-platform interoperability) across applications, platforms, and data systems.
  • Executive communication and stakeholder management, including the ability to drive alignment and clearly articulate architecture decisions and tradeoffs.
  • End-user experience and digital workplace architecture capability (e.g., Microsoft 365 collaboration, endpoint strategy, identity experience, usability and adoption considerations) to enable secure, productive ways of working.
  • M&A architecture capability; assessing, planning, and delivering transition and target-state architectures under time constraints.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive enterprise-wide solution architecture vision, target state, and roadmaps across all IT domains (infrastructure, security, end-user experience, business applications, integration, data/analytics), including the architectural direction for enterprise AI/GenAI capabilities.
  • Chair the Architecture Review Board to ensure architectural alignment and quality across major initiatives and delivery lifecycles through standards, patterns, and design assurance, including security-by-design and responsible AI guardrails.
  • Provide senior technical advisory and decision support for high-impact programs, platform selections, and tradeoff decisions (e.g., reliability, cost, security, user experience, and time-to-value).
  • Provide technical leadership for the solution architecture community by mentoring architects, driving consistent documentation, and establishing reusable reference architectures and patterns.
  • Shape and assure architecture outcomes across the Microsoft-first ecosystem (Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics, Microsoft 365), including cloud platform/infrastructure, security, digital workplace experience, integration patterns, data analytics standards, enterprise AI enablement, and M&A target state and transition designs.
