About The Position

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (HCEA) is a multi-disciplined ENR Top 500 engineering firm with 20 offices in the mid-Atlantic and Florida. The company has a 35-year history and is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP.

The Principal Geotechnical/CMT Engineer will work with the geotechnical and materials testing/inspections departments on a wide variety of public- and private-sector projects. The position is currently non-managerial, but may be re-categorized as a Managing Principal depending on the applicant’s qualifications. The role is intended for someone local to the Lehigh Valley region or willing to relocate.

Requirements

• Local to the Lehigh Valley region or willing to relocate.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a similar ABET-accredited engineering degree.
• 12 or more years of progressive experience in the geotechnical engineering consulting industry.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain one through reciprocity within three months of hire.
• Willingness and ability to mentor junior staff.

Nice To Haves

• Local Pennsylvania market experience, including local industry relationships.
• Familiarity with geotechnical software such as Tablogs/Tablabs, L-Pile, SLIDE, Settle 3D, and MSEW.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong business development skills and experience.
• Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans and specifications.
• Experience conducting senior reviews of geotechnical reports prepared by staff engineers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare geotechnical reports and calculations.
• Provide technical support to field staff.
• Review construction inspection daily field reports.
• Make occasional project-site field visits related to assigned projects.
• Mentor junior staff.
