About The Position

Rocky Vista University (RVU) is seeking a Principal Faculty Member for its Physician Assistant (PA) Program in Englewood, CO. This full-time position is responsible for delivering high-quality education, engaging in scholarly activities, and contributing to the program’s administration, service, and accreditation. The ideal candidate will have strong teaching and clinical experience and be committed to advancing the educational mission of the program and institution. The role involves approximately 50-55% teaching, 15% program and institutional service, 10% scholarship, 10% administrative duties, and optionally up to 10% clinical practice. Requirements

  • Terminal degree (e.g., Master's or Doctorate) from an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program, or an equivalent terminal degree in a relevant health-related or educational field.
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Current license or eligibility for licensure to practice in Colorado.
  • Documented experience in teaching at the university or graduate level.
  • Knowledge of current PA education and healthcare trends.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in higher education health professions programs.
  • Current clinical expertise in a medical specialty relevant to PA education (e.g., primary care, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, women's health, pediatrics, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and bring projects to successful completion with limited oversight.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and academic systems (e.g., learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and delivering medical or health sciences content at the graduate level.
  • Ability to assess student learning, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate active learning environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective student mentorship, collaboration with faculty, and engagement with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and function effectively with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as principal faculty in an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Experience with program-level assessment, evaluation, and accreditation processes within higher education.
  • Record of scholarly activity, research, or presentations pertinent to medical education or the PA profession.
  • Familiarity with higher education learning management systems (LMS).
  • Experience contributing to continuous quality improvement efforts through data collection, analysis, and reporting to support informed decision-making.
  • Thorough understanding of PA program accreditation standards (e.g., ARC-PA) as they pertain to faculty responsibilities and curriculum.
  • Experience precepting PA, MD, DO, or other healthcare professional students in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Clinical experience of 3-5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lectures and practice instruction to PA students at a master’s level.
  • Facilitate small group teaching sessions to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Utilize varied interactive delivery methods, including simulation, to provide dynamic and effective teaching.
  • Develop and update curriculum and course materials in line with accreditation standards, the program's competency-based curriculum, and the program's mission and vision.
  • Implement and score competency-based assessments.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to PA students in the didactic and clinical phases of training.
  • Participate in curriculum development, review, and assessment for the PA program.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other program-related activities.
  • Actively contribute to student recruitment, applicant evaluation, and program admissions processes.
  • Participate in program-level assessment activities.
  • Serve on institutional-level committees as appointed by the PA Program Director or University leadership.
  • Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept.
  • Engage in ongoing scholarly activities, research, and professional development relevant to the PA profession, medical education, or area of expertise.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills related to PA education, accreditation, and practice.
  • Ensure program compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the preparation of accreditation-related documentation.
  • Support program assessment activities directly related to accreditation requirements.
  • Contribute to the implementation of accreditation-related recommendations and continuous quality improvement.
  • Engage in clinical practice (up to 10% of FTE, approximately one-half day per week, if program needs allow and other duties are fulfilled).
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and support the mission of the program and the university.
